The IBM ThinkPad enables you to turn Wi-Fi on and off to control power consumption. If Wi-Fi is disabled, however, Windows XP will act as if the PC has no wireless card installed and will fail to detect wireless networks in the area. Once Wi-Fi is turned on, the operating system can be instructed to automatically configure wireless settings, allowing you to sign in online in seconds without needing to set up your network card manually.
1.Check the wireless indicator light on the bottom of the LCD screen to find out if Wi-Fi is active on the IBM ThinkPad. If the status light does not blink or glow solid green, press 'Fn-F5' to enable the wireless adapter.
2.Click 'Start,' then 'Network and Internet Connections.' Click 'Network Connections.'
3.Right-click 'Wireless Network Connection' and then select 'Properties' from the context menu.
4.Click the Wireless Networks tab. Check 'Use Windows to Configure My Wireless Network Settings.' Click 'OK.'
Tips
- On most models, the wireless indicator light is grouped with several other light emitting diodes and located farthest to the left.
- Some models don't have a wireless indicator light. If this is the case, 'Fn' and 'F5' will usually have no effect on Wi-Fi capabilities.
